The Books that have changed my life ...

Book #1
Title: Gone with the Wind
Author: Margaret Mitchell

Topic: Perseverance, Relationships

How it influenced my life:  This was the first time (but not the last) that I read a book that totally absorbed me in another world. For three days I didn't put it down, except to grab some food and a few hours of sleep. Everyone should have that pleasure.

Book #2
Title: Family Pictures
Author: Sue Miller

Topic: Relationships, Perseverance,

How it influenced my life:  Sue Miller tells an engrossing story of what it is like to be part of a special needs family. A mother, father, sister and brother all share their experiences of living with a boy severely disabled with autism and learning problems. It's heartbreaking, riveting, and uplifting. My son has Fragile X syndrome, and this book let me know I wasn't alone.

Book #3
Title: Guns Germs and Steel
Author: Jared Diamond

Topic: Environment, Business, Money-Finances, Quality of Life

How it influenced my life:  Did you ever wonder how world societies became so different and unequal? Can we ever stop wars from happening and end poverty? Through fascinating stories from far-flung places and times, Jared Diamond's book answers these questions in a way I'd never thought of before. It's a sad and yet very hopeful book - and an important one for anyone who is working in the nonprofit world.
